Fernandes double sinks Wimbledon in season opener

Derensili Sanches Fernandes marked his Huddersfield Town debut with two goals inside the opening 16 minutes as Martin Drury's side began the League One season with a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at the John Smith's Stadium.

The game was complicated on 29 minutes when Bali Mumba was sent off for a challenge on Wimbledon's Issac Ogundere, leaving Town to see out more than an hour with ten men. They did so comfortably, adding a third in the second half through Bojan Radulović, set up by Radinio Balker.

It was a first League One match in permanent charge for Drury, who was appointed head coach in May 2026.
